Ashley Pickett ‘s main gig is working as an IBCLC (international board certified lactation consultant), which all started in 2008 after her own breastfeeding journey with three kids. She had many challenges, and it was only the guidance she found at the International Breastfeeding Center (IBC) aka Newman Clinic in Toronto that helped her breastfeed her babies for many years! When her youngest was just 4 months old, she became a student at the IBC. She has more than 10 years of direct mentorship with Dr Jack Newman. She maintains clinical skills working part time at the world renown Breastfeeding Clinic, the International Breastfeeding Center (IBC) in Toronto. She also has private office hours at Abaton Integrative Medicine in Oakville and at Recharge & Play Wellness Cafe in Waterloo.
Ashley has worked with some of the toughest and most intricate feeding cases, and excels at helping families who are still having a hard time after lots of good lactation care. Her background in attachment-focused family support also helps her to guide parents to find their very best outcomes with their children’s needs (sleep, feeding and behavior) in a way that honors their infant as well as the the whole family. Ashley Pickett is especially skilled at supporting oral anatomy concerns such as tongue and lip tie with an integrative approach to care, and helping families navigating diabetic pregnancies and breastfeeding experiences. Her parenting practice is well equipped to help strategize around sleep, siblings, attachment and connected parenting, hitting, biting, introducing solid foods, expecting siblings, new transitions such as babysitters, daycare and starting school, potty training, tantrums, food battles, and more!
Continuing her education and updating skill sets is so important, which has led Ashley to attend multiple conferences and workshops each year, as well as taking on roles such as her current position as President of Attachment Parenting Canada. The more hours Ashley spent with families, the more she realized that she needed to expand her knowledge base! Ashley has spent hundreds of hours at conference and at trainings to learn more about all things pregnancy, birth and parenting! Everything is intermingled, and Ashley's cross-training has allowed her a unique viewpoint. She is able to see the whole picture and come up with targeted plans for families to experiment with.
